About Melody

Award-winning, produced playwright and screenwriter and a documentary filmmaker repped by Abrams Artists. Wheelhouse in film and TV is sci fi and horror. Head writer on the upcoming sci fi web series THE NEXT ITERATION, which will launch in 2015. Short film NO TO YESTERDAY, which I wrote and co-produced, was an Official Selection of the 2015 Boston Sci Fi Film Festival. Directing my first film, the supernatural thriller THE SOUND OF DARKNESS in 2016.

FILM & TV
My feature screenplay MONSTROUS is Winner of the 2016 Women in Cinema International Screenplay Competition, and was a Third Place winner in the 2014 Slamdance competition. Sci fi action thriller, BREAKING THE FOURTH, was a Winner of the Woodshole Film Festival. NORTHERN CROSS, an action thriller with Magical Realism that deals with illegal immigration, was in the top 10% for the Nicholl and a Creative World Award Finalist. THE DEVIL YOU KNOW was a Finalist in the British Horror Film Festival and the International Sci Fi and Horror Film Festival. My latest screenplay, the horror comedy ALL THE PEOPLE I LIKE ARE DEAD, is currently rated in the top 10 year-to-date on The Black List website. Sci fi thriller TV pilot, IMPACT 3, features a multi ethnic cast, a female protagonist, strong characters and fierce action.

THEATRE
My play SWEET MERCY, which deals with the genocides in Darfur and Rwanda, was developed by New York Stage and Film and LaMama Theater in NY and Antaeus Theater in Los Angeles. Received a Ford Foundation travel grant to go to Rwanda to develop the play, which won the 2010 SheWrites play festival and MSU's 2013 Global Culture Play Award. I was a Semi-Finalist for the inaugural 2014 Shakespeare's Sister Fellowship from the A Room of her Own Foundation. My musical SHOW WAY was nominated for an Off Broadway Alliance Award after a critically acclaimed 3 month run in NYC at Vital Theater. TRUTH BE TOLD was produced by Ensemble Studio Theatre in NYC. Received the Jane Chambers Award for DAY OF RECKONING, a play about the forgotten 19th century black activist Lucy Parsons, which was produced by New Theatre in Miami, and in NY by MultiStages, for which I won their New Works Competition. Most recent play, ABSOLUTE MAGNITUDE, which combines my love of science , women's rights and time travel is currently listed on Indie Theater Now.
