I was born In Daytona Beach, Florida, but raised equally there and in Brooklyn, New York. Since turning adult, I have lived on both coasts and for a short stretch in England.
It was during childhood that I developed, or possibly just discovered, my love of film. Music and literature were my other two passions, and upon leaving college, I gravitated to the music business, working in management and marketing, and playing music professionally. But as the industry began to sputter, splinter and disintegrate, and my dreams of being a rock star evaporated, I decided to change course and try another love.
Wanting to be on the creative end, I returned to college and got a Master’s degree in film, with a concentration in writing and directing. I had studied theater as an undergraduate, and had acted in many plays, but even then, I think I knew that I was more attuned to the role of director-it was the joy of working with an ensemble that I loved most; that and creating or adapting the stories to tell. While there, I first attempted to write and direct my own shorts. Working on such shoestring budgets and under such rigid time constraints, gives a whole new meaning to the word humility. In the world of film, the reason to go to grad school is simply the old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed…”
Although my first love was narrative fiction, I wound up for expediency’s sake in non-fiction television and documentary, and have worked steadily as a freelance producer for the past 8 years..
Working mainly in the True Crime genre, has allowed me to develop strong relationships with many people I might never have come in contact with otherwise; everyone from prosecutors, U.S. Marshalls, victim’s advocates, medical examiners, perpetrators, victims, and their families. These relationships have enriched my life and therefore my writing, and have allowed me to finally begin exploring the world of narrative writing that has always been a dream.
My ultimate goal is to create films that give a nod towards great music, literature and art, and carry on the torch of groundbreaking filmmakers such as Joseph Losey, Lucrecia Martel, Alfred Hitchcock, Roman Polanski, Carol Reed, et al, who have touched me in so many ways.
