  • Jackie the Cleaner

    Jackie the Cleaner (2019)
Film (short) by Wilfredo Aqueron (Comedy and Crime) Writer/Director On a stunning morning, a mother and her daughter visit the local cemetery, they are visiting their loved one. Eleven years have passed, and everything still feels fresh for both. Jackie's daughter JANA is talking to her father's tombstone: that's when our main character directs her words to us, presenting with a collage of fast visuals and voice-overs, she shows us her origin story in less than two minutes; Girl meets boy, Girl falls in love with boy, girl gets pregnant, Girl loses boy (he is brutally murdered without reason), Girl get's her vengeance and Girl needs to fix the mess created after her vengeance is delivered to protect those who helped her. That's when we learn what Jackie does...She is the local cleaner. After they finish with their weekly visit to the cemetery, Jackie and her daughter are on their way to Jana's school, that's when they have a serious conversation. They talked about two things; one was the problems at school between Jana and one other student and how she is being mentally humiliated and abused by him, and How Jana feels about what her mother does as part-time (Jana is aware of her mother's cleaning activities at night). Jackie's eleven-year-old daughter asks her mother to quit her extracurricular activities. Jana wants to start over in another place, somewhere safer for her mother; a place where her mother doesn't have to get their hands covered in blood. However, things are more complicated than that; Jackie loves cleaning the blood and the disposing of the bodies, she believes in the divine justice and her mentality is that only those who are righteous are entitled to have a place to rest. Also, Jana asks her mother for advice on how to handle her situation at school, that's when Jackie delivered her favorite phrase "There are only two types of people in this world, victims and aggressors and we refuse to be victims" she kisses her daughter goodbye. After thinking for a minute, Jackie decided to retire; Now, she is aware that it needs to be done right. She goes to an abandoned alley looking for the leader of the local group of people who take care of eighty percent of the killings in her town, the one that gave her the first opportunity to do what she loves. She needs to ask him how she can leave the business. We meet a mid-fifty disagreeable bum, he is dressed partially in black with a dirty clergy collar; he goes by the name father. Father and Jackie have a conversation, that's when she agrees to find and train her replacement. She made a deal with father and proceeded with the recruitment. Jackie was able to convince her day-job coworker Joseph to go with her to one of her cleaning adventures with the purpose of showing him the process and starting the training; little Jackie didn't know, that her selection was the wrong one. Joseph is a forty-something redneck with a low IQ, but more significant detail is that Joseph is an alcoholic, the one that loves to make bad decisions especially when drunk. The day after their first night of training, Joseph doesn't show up to work. That's when she received a call from him; Joseph was inside a bathtub with a shotgun aiming to his face. He explained to Jackie that they came for him. An upset Jackie calls Father to ask what the situation was, that's when she realizes about her bad replacement selection. Jackie learns that a few days ago Joseph was driving while drunk causing the death of an 11-year-old kid who was walking back from his school. It was a sad Hit-and-Run. but the worst part was that the kid's body was never found. A CCTV camera revealed that it was Joseph, that's why Joseph must be cleaned. She asks if she can talk with Joseph and while she is explaining he receives a shot to his face. That night Jackie went to do her duty as a cleaner, however, she knows that her plan was faulty and that she needed to start all over again. More important she was trying to come up with a way to tell her daughter since she already promised her, she was leaving. The next day is one of those routine days, Jackie has the ashes of her previous cleaning and she is about to throw them in the small lake close to a park. Jana always comes with her mom, so she can play while her mom disposes of any remaining evidence. This time Jana approaches her mom seconds after she distributed the ashes into the water. They both talked about the incident that happened to Joseph and how that affects their plan. However, Jana has news as well, she removes a small glass jar with the ashes from her little backpack. Her mother asks her where they came from, and Jana said that they are her school situation. With a surprised expression, Jackie asked if she killed the kid, which she replied that the kid was dead already a car hit him but left the body far from the accident. She just took care of him since he didn't deserve a place to rest.
