Carlos Jaramillo, dancer, choreographer and teacher of modern dance, contemporary dance and Latin jazz has lived and worked in Hamburg since 1991. Born and raised in Colombia, where he received his dance training with Irina Brecher and continued in New York at the Martha Graham School and the Alvin Ailey School.
In 1981 he founded in Bogotá, the first contemporary dance school and his " Triknia Kábhelioz Danza Contemporánea " which he has continued until today, currently the name stands as "Triknia Dance Company". With his company he has performed in major theatres in Colombia and in many other cities, including San José de Costa Rica, Miami, Paris, Bern, Heidelberg, Hamburg and Barcelona.
During the continuous work with his company, he developed his own dance and choreographic style, which is based on both the ethnic and cultural elements of Latin America, as well as on the creative engagement with contemporary dance styles.
In his choreography, he deals with the Latin American mythology, but also as in his work "En octubre ponen las Garzas," with social situations of today.
In 2001, Carlos Jaramillo created the CDSH, the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg now under the name Triknia Dance Academy.
