About Joey

Joey Day Hargrove is an award-winning LA-based comedy writer who fell into working with teenagers for her career and is distrubed by how lost they all seem (especially the girls), so she tends to write about lonely women finding belonging in the least likely of places through uplifting, often irrevent, journeys of self-discovery.

Growing up in Oklahoma, Joey never quite fit in. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she moved to L.A. searching for her own place to belong. However, Joey’s current job working at a church, running after-school programs and summer camps, proves that she didn’t entirely abandon her Bible belt roots, which also means she doesn't quite fit it in the big city of Los Angeles either.

Joey‘s scripts have won several contests including the Austin Film Festival, WAN (Writers Assistant Network) Fellowship and the NYWFIT’s Writer’s Lab. She won the Silver prize in PAGE in 2023. She has placed as a finalist in Big Break and a semifinalist in Nicholl.

Joey believes television and movies play an important role in shaping our culture, which is such a momentous responsibility – especially now when the world feels so broken. She also strongly believes that we need laughter more than ever and wants to create quirky stories with heart.

When not writing, she enjoys indulging in her online shopping addiction, hiking the longest hikes she can persuade her friends to do, and spending time with her husband, teen stepson and ridiculously poorly-behaved, very spoiled dogs.
