I started out as an actor in the early 70's then started as Casting Director for the ABC network in 1982 for 2 years. I have been an independent CD for the last 33 years putting names such as Russell Crow, Eric Bana, Guy Pearce, Rachel Griffiths, Jacquie McKenzie (amongst several others) in their first break out roles.
Whilst I am still casting I am now very selective of the type of projects I want to work on. I have been on the AFI (Australia Film Institute) Board and am currently the inaugural President of the Casting Guild of Australia.
We believe the digital age is upon us and more and more actors are being asked to submit their first audition (if not their final screen test) via a Self Test. Most actors are unprepared for this.
In the last 18 months I have developed the first online course teaching actors the art of self testing. Our course at The Audition Technique teaches actors to sit in my chair (the CD's chair) and see what I see. We show actors how to 'pop' to the powers that be, as well as how to see their work as a business and a brand from the CD's perspective. We do not teach actors how to act. That is the craft of a drama teacher. We teach them how to get more auditions and hopefully get the role they have worked so hard for.
