BIOGRAPHY OF GINO CERIACHI
Childhood
Gino was born in 1949 in Moie in Maiolati Spontini, in the Province of Ancona, Marche, and will die in 2069 at 120 years of age, but it is not yet clear where. Maiolati is named Spontini after Gaspare Spontini, who was born there. At that time Moie, a fraction of Maiolati was a tranquil village in the Esino valley, in the waters of which learned to swim Gino, together with other little urchins. Nowadays the river is almost dry. Until the age of 16 Gino went to swim in the nearby river during the summer and played snowball fights in the winter. More recently the valley has been destroyed by small houses and cottages of varying sizes, while the old houses have been left empty.
Up to the age of 17 Gino regularly attended the parish where he learned the basic tools for social criticism through the young priest, Don Giuliano.
Meanwhile, in the carpentry workshop of his father Gino learned that single pieces need to be well finished before they can later be assembled together, acquiring the knowledge“to do things right”.
Studies
In Moie, a school master from the nearby Comune of Jesi, who was a friend of his mother, let it be known that he was looking for students to open up a new Avviamento Industriale (a ‘Technical Middle School’, now abolished) focused upon wood and metal working classes instead of a regular Middle School oriented around Classics and Latin tuition. His mother at once enrolled Gino on the new course, in part because it was less expensive than having Gino attending the Middle School in the same town. This also left more money for the care of the older children, Modesto and Paola, and the younger Simonetta.
After 3 years wasted at the Avviamento Industriale Gino wasted another 5 years at the Technical Institute for Electrotechnical Studies, “Vito Volterra”, in Ancona: during 5 years of class tests in Electrotechnics he remained consistently unable to solve one single exercise by himself. Despite that, he always passed the class on his first attempt and in the final exam was among only six who passed the first time around.
Military service
A well connected relative arranged for Gino to be included in the Officers’ Course in the Engineers Corps. This was because the relative wanted his mother, who became a widow in 1967, not to have to worry about her son.
University
Finally Gino took his future into his hands looking for redemption . He studied German at Heidelberg University and after one year was admitted to the faculty for Business Administration at the University of Mannheim, today ranking as the top University for Economics in Germany. He gets his degree four years later, in October 1976.
Work
He started working as Marketing Assistant in Frankfurt a/M for Kraft food and worked there for a total of three years. In 1979 his application to the Film-Akademie in Berlin was rejected. He returned to Italy in 1980, where he worked for Osram lamps in marketing and sales, in Milan. By good fortune he found a position at A.T.Kearney management consulting. He subsequently managed projects in strategy, marketing, logistics and supply chain management in all continents excluding South America and China. Finally promoted to director he reached his level of incompetency.
Then in 2004 he went to China to study Chinese and to teach Economics and Marketing at RDI- Raffles Design Institute College, a company listed on the Singapore stock exchange. He taught in Canton, Huizhou, Changzhou and Shanghai. In 2011 he passed level 4 in Chinese, which enabled access to the China University for technical faculties; the maximum level for Chinese as a foreign language is 6.
Arriving in Cinema
In 2015 he revived his passion for filmmaking; as Ettore Scola said “Since I am expert in biology/marketing/physics so I want to make movies”.
