Orbiting the earth, a loner microbiologist creates the Chameleon that can go up species scale, but when it destroys the space station and makes it to Earth, they must find a way to destroy the creation, before all is lost.

Orbiting the Earth, Kate Briggs, a loner, but brilliant microbiologist, works with her team and creates a life form from a Mars rock called the Chameleon. Ultimately, her creation morphs up the species scale and begins laying eggs which hatch into spider-like scorpions that sting and kill.

One of Kate’s team, Davidson is secretly in love with her and works on a laser project to destroy asteroids. He’s got a sense of humor which brings Kate out of her shell.

The Chameleon kills most people on the space station causing Kate and a few survivors to jettison to Earth in escape launchers which land in small lake, in a small town with underground mines.

In a continuous action scene, the military attempts to capture it, but most are killed as the Chameleon morphs from insect to lizard that runs on water, to sea snake, to saber-toothed tiger, and ape, adapting and always changing. Our heroes fight it and get picked off one by one.

With an American Indian and a teenage boy, Kate and the survivors find a secret underground military where evil scientists are performing experiments to regrow limbs with the Chameleon DNA.

Kate and survivors fight the Chameleon and it’s offspring in an underground nuclear silo where time ticks away before the nuke explodes. She and Davidson use the laser program to destroy the creation as they rocket out of a nuclear silo with Chameleon flying as a giant dragonfly.

Kate learns from her flaws that she needs to be careful what she creates. She must destroy her creation and out think it while learning to laugh and feel a real life connection to her friends.

In the end, the Chameleon is destroyed by laser and Kate and Davidson form a strong bond.
