By Nate Miller

GENRE: Action, Thriller
LOGLINE:

A disconnected Navy SEAL finds love after robbing the drug cartel to help financially struggling vets; however, the pursuit of a brilliant cartel investigator could destroy it all.

SYNOPSIS:

Like many vets, recently retired Navy SEAL Mitch has felt disconnected and alone ever since he left the military. When Sophie, the seven-year-old daughter of a team member, is diagnosed with Leukemia, he is resolute to save the one precious thing in his life. Short on cash and short on time he needs to come up with a way to fund Sophie’s treatment. After Mitch witnesses illegal cash collections outside a local supermarket he formulates a viable plan – rob the Mexican Drug Cartel.

Mitch’s elite team consists of: 1) Cole - Mitch’s best friend and deadliest member. He is a quiet killing machine that is only happy when conducting an Op. 2) Jeff - More of what Hollywood would think of when they describe a Seal. He is tough, brash, and likes to drink. 3) Sammy - The youngest member and team labeled jokester. 4) Rob – Sophie’s father and expert sniper.

The team locates a target, suites up, and with precision timing ascends on the cartel stash house. To their dismay, they breach the home only to find it empty. Fortunately, a key piece of intel found at the home could be the answer. After some recon the team makes an amazing discovery, the cartel is using a local real estate firm to provide a rotating supply of drop homes. The team spots cartel middle manager Hector Quesada entering the Weins Real Estate office who unknowingly leads them to their next target, but not before Mitch has an accidental encounter with a beautiful real estate agent from the office named Carmilla Lopez.

Late that night, the team moves quickly and quietly through a cartel owned salvage yard. With the operational tempo expected of SEALS, the team takes out the cartel guards and secures the area before discovering stacks of cash welded inside a van. Sophie now has the money she needs and at this point the team can get out clean, their raid made to look like a rival cartel. But the Op felt good to Cole and he doesn’t want to stop. Instead, Cole wants to hit other stash sites and use the money to help financially struggling vets like Jim and Todd; guys he sees when volunteering at the VA.

Mitch is hesitant, he knows the risk of tangling with the cartel. But like Cole the Op made him feel alive. For the first time since he retired he felt a part of something, for a moment he wasn’t disconnected, wasn’t a Ghost.

Mitch and the team decide to keep going, but with each Op comes additional risk. Not only have they attracted the attention of CIA agent Tom Blanchard AKA “Pineapple” but also the attention of the ruthless cartel leader Jose Rodriguez. The flamboyant Pineapple, named that for his love of pineapple mojitos, wants to launder their money and provide intel in exchange for a percentage of the seized cash. Meanwhile, Jose Rodriguez is hell bent on punishing anyone who steals from him. Rodriguez brings in a brilliant investigator, and former Castro intelligence officer, named Edmundo Escobar to hunt them down and recover his cash.

With the backing of the CIA, the team could have the ability to operate in the shadows indefinitely; however, Mitch’s growing relationship with Carmilla is a risky link and could compromise the entire operation. As the team’s raids continue and the number of helped vets grows, so does Mitch and Carmilla’s love for each other. Meanwhile, Edmundo is closing in on a profile. The shot placements and the skill of the raids all point to a team with special Ops training. He knows the real estate office is the key, he just doesn’t know why.

Complete for the first time in his life, and head over hills in love, Mitch decides it is time to get out and start a normal life - but it may be too late. Edmundo has acquired a photo on Carmilla’s phone which shows a bandaged Mitch. Combined with evidence he discovered at a recent raid, the picture helps Edmundo put together the final piece of the puzzle – Carmilla.

His enemies identified, Edmundo launches a quick and fierce counter strike, brutally killing Sammy and wounding Jeff. He captures Mitch and Carmilla and takes them to the estate of Jose Rodrigues for interrogation, torture, and execution.

But Cole has no intention of leaving a man behind and, with the help of the CIA, sneaks into Mexico and executes a dangerous rescue mission deep in the heart of cartel territory. The team storms the compound and an explosive fire fight ensues. The team rescues Mitch and Carmilla and then heads to the extract point. A SHOT RINGS OUT, A SCREAM IS HEARD, and Mitch’s body goes limp. Cole turns to see the man who just killed his best friend. Edmundo takes aim at Carmilla, but Cole is too quick and terminates Edmundo with extreme prejudice, firing round after round until Edmundo’s body is riddled with bullets.

Storm clouds in the distance are an ominous reminder of the sadness felt by everyone at the funeral of Mitch and Sammy. After the service a tearful Carmilla leaves with her brothers while Cole ponders the one who got away – Jose Rodriguez.

A few weeks later, on the beautiful estate of Jose Rodriguez, it is business as usual for the ruthless criminal, that is, until he is ripped apart by a 50 BMG caliber bullet. Seconds later fire and smoke erupt as his compound is decimated by a drone strike.

It’s a peaceful starry night back at HQ. Cole exits a van holding a 50 BMG rifle. Tom hands Cole a tablet and we see a list of cities with corresponding dollar amounts. Millions and millions of dollars were seized by seven other teams across the country who are now actively conducting Ops against the various cartels. Tom invites Cole in for a mojito and to discuss the future. Cole stares out at the night sky, remembering his friend. A slight smile begins to form across his face. He turns and follows Tom into HQ.
