MAURICIO MONTERRUBIO

I’m a cinematographer, camera operator and colorist, I studied at the Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC-UNAM) in Mexico City. I also studied screenwriting at the European School of Arts and Cinema.

I have taken different workshops such as: Film Restoration Workshop “Mto. Paolo Tosini”, Master Class “Renato Berta, AFC”, Cinematography Workshop “Rexford Metz, ASC”, Cinematography Workshop “Bill Bennett, ASC”, Cinematography Workshop “Dean Cundey, ASC”, Cinematography Workshop “Jack Lach, AMC”, Cinematography Workshop “Alejandro Cantú” at the Internacional Film Festival Of Guadalajara, Green Screen Workshop “Agustín Calderón”, Lighting with LEDS Workshop, Image Workshop “New Art Mexico City”, Cinematography in 16mm Workshop “Mario Luna”, Camera Operator Workshop “Mercedes Porter and Francesco Cavazza”, Production Workshop “Discovery Networks”.

I’ve been working as a freelance in films, shortfilms, music videos, documentaries, TV series for 5 years as a cinematographer, camera operator and camera assistant; nowadays I am color correcting short films and publicity at CONTRABAJOFILMS and I'm proud to say that two of the shortfilms I corrected (Los Lilos & Lalito) were selected at Cannes in the Short Film Corner 2016 meanwhile I continue working as a cinematographer and camera operator at different places.

My first short film “Andwele/Zumbi” participated at the 7th edition of the Latino American Cinema Festival in Sao Paulo Brazil “2012” and at the International Festival of Cinema in Acapulco México 2012; and was presented at the “BETA MOVEMENT” in México City.

The short film “Tucán” that I photographed was preselected at the Clermont Festival 2012 and invited at the Dubai Festival 2012, also participated at the International Festival of Cinema 2012 in Acapulco México and won the second place at the competition “Hazlo en Corto de BBVA Bancomer & Cinepolis 6ta edición”.

My shortfilm “Septentrion Haikaiss” participated at the Convert Cinematography Competition Film Festival 2014 and at the Experimental Arts “Refluxo” Festival in Goiânia Brasil 2016.

In 2015 I photographed the second unit of the documentarie: “Ayotzinapa Chronicle Af A State Crime” Dir. Xavier Robles and also photographed the documentarie: “Love Is A Taboo” Dir. Demian Saldaña that is on postproduction.
