Erik Wiese is an Emmy and Annie-nominated Writer, Director and Storyboard Artist. Currently Head of Story at Sony Pictures Animation. He was recently Head of Story on the Spongebob sequel, Sponge Out of Water.
Previously, he was Head of Story at Laika; a staff writer and story editor on the upcoming cartoon series Zip Zip (GO-N); a writer on Star Wars: Detours; and a Supervising Producer on the series Dude That’s My Ghost (Gaumont / Disney EMEA).
Erik began his career working as an animator with John Kricfalusi on the animated video for Bjork’s "I Miss You." He then began working with Stephen Hillenburg on character development for the SpongeBob pilot. He stayed with the show for several seasons as a writer and storyboard artist and also worked on The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie.
He next co-created and executive produced two seasons of The Mighty B!, a cartoon about a deranged 9 year-old girl scout starring Amy Poehler, which received an Emmy and several Annie nominations.
Erik attended Cal Arts and Art Center College of Design Pasadena. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife. He holds dual EU citizenship, speaks fluent Spanish and has experience running European co-productions.
