THE BOY WHO HAD THREE ARMS
By Christian James Hearn

GENRE: Independent, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A long suffering teen, born with three arms, turns his anger against the world by using his extra appendage for "evil", but when he befriends other outcasts and misfits he learns to take pride in being the boy who had three arms and embraces his difference as a gift.

SYNOPSIS:

Tristan hates his extra appendage and the misery it brings, falling victim to cruel teenagers and adults. But his mother insists "he is as God made him" and refuses to give permission for it to be removed while his apathetic father doesn't prove to be the source of guidance a teenager might hope for.

Alone and not knowing his place in the world, Tristan vows to kill himself by the end of summer unless his life improves. However, his attempts to hide his arm and find friends at a local youth club only attract the attention of Kevin, the neighbourhood bully.

Tristan considers some DIY surgery before taking inspiration from comic books and chooses to use his extra arm for 'evil' and retaliate against his tormentors. Armed with a homemade costume stitched together from his mother's clothes, Tristan plagues his small town by unleashing a crime wave - disturbing prayer meetings, offending the elderly, and smearing excrement on shop windows. But his brief reign of terror is thwarted when he's caught stealing from a flea market.

Tristan strikes a deal with the flea market's owner - work off his debt during the course of the summer. It's here that Tristan meets Peanut, a vertically challenged individual who dreams of one day being a "legitimate" dwarf, and unlike Tristan, aspires to be a "freak".

The pair become best friends as Peanut is on hand to dispense wisdom about self-love, how it's perfectly normal to be weird, and how it's not really masturbating if you use your elbows - all in return for having Tristan help shrink Peanut.

With Peanut's help Tristan lands a date with Dakota, the prettiest, but intentionally loneliest girl in school. It doesn't matter to Tristan that Dakota only agrees in order to gather material for her book 'The Moron Diaries'.

Tristan's confidence grows and he learns how to be happy spending his summer in the company of his new friends. Most of all, he learns how to be happy with himself. But he suddenly finds himself once again taking his noose out of his toy box when Peanut unexpectedly passes away from an enlarged heart.

When Dakota presents Tristan with the book she's been compiling about him, instead of finding pages of cynical rants, he reads a chronicle of a rich and fulfilling life. Dakota leaves the last chapter blank, encouraging Tristan to see beyond what might feel like the end.

Tristan climbs out of the hole of futility and grief to compete head to head against his nemesis Kevin in the end of summer raft race. Tristan's raft takes on water and sinks, but he applauds his tormentors as they take the gold.

Tristan returns to school having learned to recognise the advantages his extra arm gives him - his hugs being 33.3% better than the average person's and the ability to create incredible shadow puppets.

Tristan is proud to be the boy who has three arms.
