Daniel Ackerman is a Director of Photography who began his career after graduating from California Institute of the Arts’ School of Film & Video. See his experimental animated short, Portal, here. Ackerman worked commercially on animated films and video projects in Los Angeles, Tokyo, and Portland as Technical Director, Visual Effects Coordinator, Camera & lighting tech, building up skills as a filmmaker. In 1990 he started Ackerman Films, a production company specializing in stop-motion animations. His eye for lighting, abilities as a problem solver, builder of camera control devises and rigs for motion control led him to Vinton Studios lighting and shooting seven episodes of “The PJ’s”. Ackerman continues work as Director of Photography on commercials and films for clients including Sony, Intel, Adidas, Bent Image Lab in addition to operating Stage13 Rental Studio in Portland, Oregon. Ackerman is dedicated to keeping the craft in filmmaking and teaches a variety of filmmaking classes at local colleges, schools, through seminars and soon, on-line.
