Award winning writer and director Brett Heard is a twenty-five-year veteran to the film and television industry, both in front of and behind the camera. His experience as an established stand-up and sketch comedy performer across Canada and the United States, and countless acting roles in television series, TV movies and big budget Hollywood features evolved into a successful career as a story teller.
In 2012, Brett wrote and directed his first feature STAG that picked up many festival awards and nominations across the US and Europe, and is now in wide distribution internationally. His second feature, Go Fish, was a co-writing/directing initiative with Kate Drummond, and is touching the hearts of audiences from tweens to seniors. Heard is now in the early development stages on two new features as he continues his passion for storytelling.
Brett has also established himself as a pioneer in the industry.
In 2007 he launched Fresh Baked Entertainment, the first brand-sponsored digital storytelling company that creates episodic series. Past shows have been financed by McDonalds, Johnson & Johnson, ConAgra, etc. Fresh Baked allows artists to monetize their work online, and gives marketers a much-needed authentic voice to connect with consumers.
In 2012 Heard created The Incubator Studio as a unique development company whereby actors, writers and directors come together from the inception of an idea, and create a short, pilot or feature film from the ground up. The process is driven by the writer and director, but includes a unique collaboration that listens to all voices and allows actors a deeper sense of their storytelling involvement, which translates to more authentic and grounded performances. It was through this process that Brett and Kate created Go Fish.
