A PREDESTINED AFFAIR
By Tony D. Pindrock

GENRE: Experimental, Thriller
LOGLINE:

A conservative newlywed risks her life and that of her unborn child when she enters a realm beyond comatose to save her husband before he's trapped forever with a mistress that only exists in his dreams, and was predestined to die with.

SYNOPSIS:

Steven Sloan, a carefree, off-the-cuff guy who’s always looking for his next thrill, falls in love with Jenny. She’s basically his exact opposite. Very conservative and would be lost without her day planner. The two met at a hair salon she worked at.

These newlyweds are about to embark on a journey that raises the question: Is life predestined, and if so, what happens if we veer off our pre-ordained paths?

Rewind six years ago. Steven has a session with a Carny-Fortune-Teller that informs him he will meet the woman of his dreams at the Indy 500. Being the thrill-seeker and gearhead that he is, he goes for it. But on the day of the race a highway accident keeps him from meeting his foretold dream woman.

Meanwhile at the race, unbeknown to Steven, a freak accident occurs sending a tire and axle into the stands. It kills a woman and mangles the empty seat next to her. The very seat Steven would have been sitting in. Was this meant to be, or not?

Six years pass and Steven and Jenny are enjoying a happy married life. Great jobs, good friends, and to chance to start a family which is something Jenny eagerly desires. All is good. What could possibly screw it all up? Perhaps an affair, but this is no ordinary affair.

Steven begins to have dreams of a dark-haired seductress he has never seen or met before. The dreams occur night after night. He’s encouraged by some co-workers to have fun with it. After all, it’s not considered cheating if she’s not real, right? His Uncle Chuck, a burly teddy-bear, warns him against it, but Steven really doesn’t have a choice. The woman is there whether he wants her to be or not. So, he might as well make the best of both worlds.

Jenny is clueless to what’s going on until it gets harder to wake Steven up. Each passing dream lures him deeper into what seems like another world where Jenny doesn’t even exist. This begins to affect his work when he is caught sleeping and gets a suspension. Steven finally concludes he must confess to Jenny everything that’s been going on, but how?

Jenny arrives home after a late night out with a female friend only to hear sexual moans coming from the upstairs bedroom. She barges in on Steven peering under a sheet to what was a sexual climax that took place in his dream. Jenny demands answers and he confesses to everything.

They decide to get help from the “Dream Right Clinic.” A place that specializes in dream therapy and ran by Estelle Grant and her husband Jared Courtland. Steven wants nothing to do with experiments and demands just a prescription to make him stop dreaming. This works for a few days until late one night, he wakes to the horror of his clenched hands around Jenny’s throat. The decision is then made to partake in the experiments.

Steven checks into the clinic. After a week of test to no avail, the only hope they have is Estelle’s far-fetched Predestined Theory. Estelle is convinced that Steven was predestined to meet this woman at some point in his life. She suggests they go home and look at old year books and things that might jog his memory. After all, what do they have to lose?

Jenny and Steven are relaxing watching the Indy 500 when photos of bystanders that have been injured or killed come across the screen. Steven leaps to his feet. “There she is! There she is” he exclaims. It’s Monic Blake, the unfortunate young woman killed at the 500 six years ago. Her agenda is to replay the tragic event of that day, but this time Steven will die with her and be lost forever.

They call Estelle who is at an out-of-town conference and will be in on a Redeye flight as soon as she can. Steven is terrified to fall asleep now. He pops pills and energy dreams to stay awake until he runs out and Jenny must go out for refills. He tells Jenny he’s going to take a cold shower while she’s gone. The water starts out cold but eventually becomes hotter causing Steven to succumb to sleep.

Jenny with Uncle Chuck discover the sleeping, Steven. They try to wake him to no avail and rush him to the Clinic after a call from Estelle. She explains that Steven is in a realm beyond comatose. The only hope of recovery is for Jenny to be induced into the same comatose world as Steven and convince him that his life is with her in the real world.

To complicate things, Jenny finds out she is pregnant making it even more of a risk. The decision is hers. She agrees and enters this alternate world. Her search appears to be hopeless at first until she meets an Irish Priest that was one of Estelle’s patients that is still in a coma. With time running out, they find Steven. Jenny pulls a desperation move and proves true love conquers all.

A glimpse of a world beyond comatose is only a request away where your imagination is your only limitation. I invite you to take the journey.
