CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES
By Jack Wood

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE: CHARLOTTE SOMETIMES - Out of the limelight for 25 years, a fiery actress turned barfly is about to mount a comeback when her arch nemesis and the love of her life shows up on her doorstep. A cross between WHO'S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? and FOOL FOR LOVE.

SYNOPSIS:

(This script has been optioned but we're seeking partners to see it through.) Synopsis: CHARLOTTE WEBB hasn't worked in Hollywood since the early 1980s. Deemed "difficult," she didn't help herself by hooking up with SAM EDWARDS, an unreliable stuntman. Their adventures got them blackballed from Hollywood, and eventually from each other. Charlotte moved to North Dakota and became caretaker to Sam's dad, SENIOR. Sam came and went, never lighting for long. When we meet Charlotte, she's a barfly at the local Indian casino. We're privy to a couple of (un)romantic encounters that aren't exactly Hallmark Moments. Though her social life needs a good deal of work, her relationship and undying devotion to Senior give her a reason to soldier on. A hotshot film director has a script perfect for Charlotte. Between her long-suffering agent and Senior, she's becoming convinced to take the role. Waffling between the desire to go back to what she loves, guilt for possibly abandoning Senior for an untold amount of time, and massive doses of insecurity, she warms to the role. No sooner does she commit emotionally than Sam shows up. This time he says it's for good; he's retired from the rodeo and ready to settle down. Not exactly met with open arms by pere' or paramour, he lays the charm on thick. When that fails, he puts the house on the market. The thought of Senior being evicted only increases Char's commitment to the role. What Sam doesn't tell Char right away is that he's dying. Following a great audition she gets the role and a chance at a comeback. After a soul searching period - and knowing it's her last shot, she passes on the role to stay and spend what little time is left with the father and son. Senior refuses to let this happen.
