THE HOPEIOD EPIDEMIC
By Rob Jones

GENRE: Comedy
LOGLINE:

A Mockumentary TV Pilot that follows a young tumultuous Alternative Band and their honest-to-a-fault never-was manager trying to keep it all together as they are set to sign their first record deal.

SYNOPSIS:

It appears that Rock is dying and only one ragtag possibly deluded egotistical band and their honest-to-a-fault manager can save it. We meet Kellie on his way to Worldwide Records Austin's top indie label. The label is anxious to re-sign the group on the first-look deal they had in place that's coming to an end. Also, to tell Kellie their vision for the band. Kellie has his own plans and is glad the documentary crew is here to document them for the world.

One by one we meet the band members. First theirs Jay, pure rockstar energy. We meet him passed out on what we think is a sandy beach with a girl's arm draped over him. He was discovered by Kellie after a bad acid trip at an open mic night that led to him being jailed.

Kellie constantly touts the closeness of the band due to his management style and everything they've been through. The documentary crew arrives at the band's lead singer/founder's apartment. The talented but arrogant and flaky lead singer/songwriter, Teddy. He lets them know the band is no, more serious creative differences.

At the label meeting, they let Kellie know they are going in a more mainstream and marketable direction for the band. A sleek-looking pop boy band and a collabo with their newly signed hip-hop artist, Lil' Porkchop. For the already-written song "Girl, You're as tasty as Bacon"

Kellie lets them know this goes against everything every member of the band stands for. He doesn't back down and lets them know that his broke ass has saved up to take them to LA for meetings with the big labels.

A bit frazzled but not deterred the A&R rep Gwen reveals her true desire, to divide the band she can essentially double-dip her end and give the musicians a motivator. She believes both Teddy and Jay could front their own band and by fueling their rivalry crank out some great sounds.

We meet the last two members of the band at the run-down apartment they share together with Jay. Teddy's childhood friend and the bassist, Patton. Well, he calls himself Cloud now at the behest of his girlfriend/spiritual advisor, Karma. And their quiet kick-ass drummer with mental health issues, Dan. Kellie swears the first thing on his agenda in LA is to get Dan the help he needs. These boys are his family.

Things aren't always peaches and cream between the clash of personalities all living in the cramped apartment. But they somehow maintain based on their love for that music and belief in the band. Gwen arrives at Teddy's butter him up and lets him know she's gonna make him the star he deserves to be. At the same time, Kellie calls Teddy to let him know about the record label's deceitful plans. Wires get crossed as Gwen is seductively whispering in his ear and distracting him as Kellie talks. Kellie ends the conversation thinking things are on the up and up. Teddy only has one thing on his mind and it's Gwen.

Kellie assembles the group (sans Teddy) to a restaurant for lunch on him (he doesn't have the money to pay) to let them know his plans. That Teddy is back on board (he's not) and he's booked them all flights to LA(that part is true) But what no one knows is pure badass rockstar energy, Jay is deathly afraid of flying.

Before signing away his rights and officially breaking up with the band, Teddy feels he at least needs to let Dan, Kellie, and Cloud know. Gwen specifically told him not to contact them(she's going to the airport to woo Jay away) However, her plan falls apart when Teddy and Jay realize what happened and decide to go off in the proverbial sunset together, solidifying the band.

Well, there is still one problem, besides the fact that Teddy just ate an eighth of mushrooms to celebrate and is about to trip balls any moment now. Jay refuses to get on the plane. He has to take the word and rely on possibly the two people he mocks the most. Cloud and Karma tell him to meditate with them right here, right now and they will get him over his fear of flying. He reluctantly does. Once they wrangle the completely out of it, Teddy they are on their way to LA. Maybe Rock isn't dead after all.
