About Martyn

Had to get rid of the 3rd-person bio - it was just too odd to edit something in that POV.

This is me -

I'm 36; I currently reside in Cape Town, South Africa. I originally hail from Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

My creative life has been scattered here and there, with intentions of being a novelist and poet (mostly) a thing of the past. I stumbled upon screenwriting at university, and it's now my main focus.

Having said that, my interests are beginning to gravitate towards the production side of the game. Writing for the sake of writing doesn't seem to fit, it's too passive, and my current feeling is that I should be more proactive.

Past works - see my profile for more information.

I'm currently doing a lot of research on crowdfunding with a view to applying to a creative project. On that note - I highly recommend RB Botto's 'Crowdsourcing for Filmmakers' to anyone filmmaker.

In addition to that, I'm piecing together an outline for a short film project, I've drafted a short screenplay that I will adapt to a feature spec script later this year, and I'm in the process of discussing another short film project with a friend back in Newcastle.

I have two unproduced short screenplays - please feel free to contact me regarding them.

More importantly, feel free to drop me a message to say hello and let me know what you're up to creatively.

Unique traits: My dog Peewee is my agent, and he's terrible, so I hire and fire him on a daily basis. He's currently fired due to doing no work. I am about to become a dad, and I'm the luckiest man alive. My wife is a constant source of support for what I do. We make a solid team.

  • Nightmares

    Nightmares (2011)
Film (Animation, Short and Horror) Miscellaneous Crew The concept of Nightmares was to create an original film based around the idea of combining the skills of a film maker and a photographer. The film is made entirely of still imagery. There's a legend about a spirit or goblin in Germanic folklore which rides on people's chests while they sleep, bringing on bad dreams. This spirit is known as a Mara. The film Nightmares shows the story of 3 people who are each visited by a Mara in their dreams. The Mara makes them each experience their worst nightmare.
