Matt Harlock

Matt Harlock is an award-winning director whose drama and documentary films have been screened widely at festivals and on TV.

In 2011, Matt completed directing and producing his first feature film, 
‘American The Bill Hicks Story’. An animated documentary on the life of the
legendary cult comedian, ‘American’ was the 2nd most successful documentary released in UK cinemas in 2010, played over 40 international festivals, was Grierson-nominated and won several Best Documentary prizes (Dallas, Little Rock, Downtown LA, Biografilm Bologna). It is 6th on iTunes UK All-Time Bestsellers Docs chart and no.4 on Rotten Tomatoes Best Films of 2011.  

Matt’s drama short films have been shown on Channel 4, Film4, HBO and Sky,
winning awards from Manhattan SFF, TCM & Film London. Lollipop was commissioned by Channel 4, and Toll was shown at over 30 festivals, supported by the British Council and was bought by Film 4 & HBO. The Clouds won the National 48 Hour Film Challenge, and Kingsize was British Council supported, screening at Cinefeel UK’s Pompidou Centre show.

He is currently developing feature projects The Monkey Cage and Aftermath, and was a Berlinale Talent in 2014.

Matt has worked extensively in commercial and corporate, often as creative
as well as directing, for clients such as Intel, Sony, Vodafone, Orange, Dixons & Motorola (3 prestigious Stevie Awards in the US) & Microsoft (2 IVCA’s 2014).

Matt speaks at festivals internationally on marketing/VOD & distribution for
independent producers. His masterclass has been presented at SXSW, SheffDoc, SPAA Melbourne, Raindance, EastEndFF, Directors UK & LOCO.
