Kasule Douglas ‘Benda’ is a 27year old performing artist born in Kampala-Uganda, East Africa. He holds a BA in drama and theatre from Performing Arts and Film department, Makerere University. He has been involved in a number of performing arts projects as an actor featuring on local television drama series (trickstars-2012 and Katemba mu kooti-2013), voice acting in a number of local radio drama series, a number of theatre plays (Cats and Hens, The Bride, Black Mamba, Kintu and Nambi, The Exodus, The Tewlfth Night) as an actor and also as director. He has also voiced in a number of radio dramas like-Rock Point 256, Fair Play, Nurse Mildred, Take My Hand, Mako-Mere, Oli Stede, My Children. He has been an artistic director for Dynamo Theatre Company since 2012. As a filmmaker, Kasule started in2013 with experimental short films which didn’t work out but later in the same year he directed ‘In Reality’ produced under Wrist House Production, a Short film that has earned him respect around Uganda and East Africa. In Reality has been selected in a number of festivals locally and internationally. In Reality has earned him an award in the National Youth Talent Expo as an outstanding film director. Currently Kasule is working on two short films (‘Mirror’ and ‘The Bag’) in post production still with Wrist House Production. He is also currently a drama teacher at Rainbow International School of Uganda. Also he is has come up with #SoloAct, an initiative that is giving actors around Kampala a platform to perform monologues before a live audience. He participated in Colchester 60Hr Film Challenge 2015 with a short film ‘The Foolproof Plan’ and this film won him his 5th award at Digital Short Film Competition 2016 at Galway African Film Festival in Ireland.
He is the founder of BENDA BOOKINGS, an actors’ management, coaching and representation firm in Uganda.
