About Karent


Karent Hinestroza is an actress from Colombia (South - America), with a BA in Dramatic Arts from the University of Valle in Cali, Colombia. Her diverse acting experiences spans from feature films to television to theater to radio. Karent has also spent time teaching acting in her native Colombia. In 2013 the Academy of Arts and Sciences for Cinematography in Colombia gave Karent the Macondo Award of best actor, for her lead role in the movie Chocó. In 2014 she won the prize India Catalina for best Actress Revelation in her role in the television series La selección that aired in Caracol Television. In 2015 Karent won the Guachupé de Oro Award for social awareness contributions as an actress. On the stage she starred in theatrical works for several professional theater companies under the direction of well renowned directors. In “A Streetcar named called Desire ” by Tenneessee Williams, directed by Everent Dixon, Karent played Blanch Dobois.

Karent has acted in 8 feature films with lead roles in Chocó directed by Jhonny Hendrix, El Faro, by Pacho Botía and El Vuelco del Cangrejo directed by Óscar Ruiz Navia. With the previously mentioned films she has received very special recognition for her outstanding performances during her international tour of some of ones the most important film festivals in the world such as: Berlin Film Festival, La Berlinale, Pacific Meridam in Vladivostok-Russia, The International Festival Nuevo Cine de la Habana Cuba, The International Film Festival of Trinidad & Tobago, The Colombian Film Festival in New York, The International Festival in Finland, Calgary Latin Wave, The International Festival of Saint Barthélemy, The Pan African Art & Film Festival, The International Festival of Cartagena and many more. Karent has also participated as a host in the Cartagena Film Festival in 2013, and 2014 where the festival decided to use Karent as the image of the Film Festival for her well known work as an actress. And in December 2015 she was a judge in the 48 Hour Film Project in the Capital of Colombia, and in 2018 the judge in The smartphone Film Festival Colombia. Karent starred the successful tv series called, La Mamá de 10 (The Mom of Number 10) in 2018 for which received two recognition as the Afrocolombian of the year 2018-2019 in the art category, by Color of Colombia foundation, and newspaper El Espectador, and the other recognition named “ Leaders who Innovate” by Ministry of Interior- Colombia. Now, she has started her new path as director, screenwriter and producer with her new movie called Black or Latina.
