SYNOPSIS:
SYNOPSIS
Imagine experiencing a version of the world where you’re a deadly assassin. Or a celebrity. Or even a superhero. What if fire was never discovered? Or if technology advanced out of control? What if children ran the world? Or women’s liberation never took place? What if there was no disease? No sun? No violence?
And on and on…
According to physics, there exists something called the Multiverse - a collection of millions of parallel versions of earth and of us – existing simultaneously on different planes of reality. Each version is spawned by choices made and not made by people who exist here, in what science refers to as Earth Prime - the primary reality. Physicists know these parallel dimensions exist, they just haven’t figured out how to access them yet.
Until now…
Anthropology professor, James Adler and his two children are devastated when a car accident leaves wife and mother, Beth Adler in a permanent coma. That is until their supposedly insane grandfather and ex-military physicist, Bartholomew Fisk reveals that Beth’s consciousness has simply been sent into the Multiverse – into a parallel version of herself. And that he knows how to get her back…
Bartholomew reveals that he had invented a machine for the government that could temporarily transfer a person’s consciousness between the different parallel versions of themselves allowing them to travel through the Multiverse. If he could recreate that machine, he could send James’ consciousness out into the Multiverse to search for Beth and bring her back.
With the life of their mother on the line, medical student A.J. (Amelia Jane) and 12 yr old engineering prodigy, Benjamin insist on joining their father and allow their consciousness’s to be transferred into the vast, unexplored territory of the Multiverse.
Though wondrous and limitless, the Multiverse is nevertheless wrought with peril...
The fact that Beth Adler’s consciousness could be in any infinite number of parallel earths is only the first problem. If they do manage to find her, she won’t remember them. They will have to rely on the strength of their family bond to coax her consciousness back to the surface. But if they stay too long in any one parallel reality they could become trapped there permanently so they will constantly be racing against the clock. As well, if they die while in a parallel reality it will render them brain dead in their primary reality.
Meanwhile, as grandpa Bartholomew watches over the family’s comatose bodies at home, his old military nemesis discovers that he has recreated the ground breaking Consciousness Transference technology and vows to get his hands on it at any cost. If something happens to Adlers’ bodies while they are in a state of ‘transference’ their minds will be lost in the Multiverse forever…
Parallel is a one hour, episodic, sci-fi family drama that explores how every choice we make can actually shape the world we live in. Combining Sliders, Quantum Leap and Parenthood, each episode will follow the Adler family as they step into the shoes of a parallel life to experience the repercussions of how certain choices made by certain people have resulted in a variant reality. Sometimes it will be them who are different and other times the world itself.
Heart racing and heartwarming, the Adler family will experience alternate realities that will make them question their hearts, their minds and at times, even their sanity. But with every action they take having a ripple effect throughout the Multiverse, will they actually sacrifice all of reality in order to put their family back together?...
