About Gerald

Ever since I was a young child I've been in love with storytelling. My early memories are of me sitting on a straw mat in Sri Lanka with my Mother and her friends. Whether they were buying vegetables that day or reminiscing their friendship, they knew how to orate an exciting and funny story from a simple situation.

Short time after, the civil war broke out and we migrated to London. There I came into contact with western arts and culture.
This led me to study fine arts at university, where I learned painting, photography and sculpture. However none of those mediums were able to capture me until I picked up a video camera and made my first film.

Filmmaking not only brought me joy, it gave me the perfect tools to express myself. I was able play with audio and visuals to create poetic films, which dealt with certain issues and questions I had, such as how my eastern identity fitted into the western world.

Since living in Berlin, I've discovered a passion for fiction film. I feel the urge to share and communicate my experiences through filmmaking. And being exposed to both western and eastern cultures, has given me a unique and strong visual story telling palette.

Unique traits: Good listener.
