About Nicholas

Filmmaker from a small town, living in Los Angeles to make the dream come true.

I started getting steady work as an editor while attending film school from 2010 to 2012, and this came from talking to faculty and other students about my having shot and edited weekly segments for my film class in high school since 2006. Shortly after leaving film school and wanting to branch out of post, I began taking roles as a first assistant director, line producer, and producer for smaller projects in order to get myself into pre-production and on set; while that's treated me well, it's filled me with a hunger to branch out further, and scale-up both budget and scope-of-vision as I continue growing my career.

Most recently, I've had a lot of fortune in preproduction, specifically with script breakdown and scheduling the day via collaboratively creating detailed shot lists, storyboards, and edit decision lists. Through utilizing these processes before the production phase of filmmaking, I've been a part making the impossible possible, and with a crew of like-minded creatives who have the vision of the project at heart and in mind, we're able to create some pretty great pieces at the end of the day.

In production, I try to stay equal parts good cop and bad— we've all heard that no one is supposed to like the AD, but if your assistant director is causing stress for anyone who is on task, I'd wager that AD should be talked to after wrap that day. I don't like anyone to talk to the director unless it's myself or an actor, ideally, because most questions should've been answered in preproduction, but I've never encountered a problem that couldn't be solved via planning, a stern talking-to, or having well-thought-out contingency plans.

And finally, post-production has always been my bread and butter. I started as an editor in high school, often having to re-edit my segments after shooting for the sake of my school's censors and boards, and I've been editing spec. ads, music videos, short films, and a few feature-length films and documentaries ever since. This relationship with officials and rules also allowed me to be more creative with my writing, and I'm proud to say that my overall foundations as a filmmaker are strengthened because of it— censorship is the mother of creativity, after all, and not necessarily a detriment to a project if it's handled properly.
