SYNOPSIS:

A young Hawaiian surfer woman, Lily Kilauea gets attacked by a shark during a surfing competition. She successfully fights off the shark but it costs her the title. Oddly, no one remembers or saw the shark. After being hit in the head by the surfboard, the shark swims away, only to transform into a handsome, if jerky, man named Nanue. He staggers into the lair of Puku, the High Priest of the War God Ku who takes him to task for failing to kill the woman. Puku announces he will send the Night Walkers to do the job. Lily tells her Grandmother about the shark and Grandmother warns about spirits that can take shark forms and shows Lily a special rock. Later at Lily's home skeletal warriors attack. Puku shows Lily that he has stolen the rock that her Grandmother had shown her. Lily fights off the Night Walkers and escapes, running into a sleeping fisherman, Henry. They get trapped by the warriors and lose the rock, but just before Puku can kill them the sun rises and the Night Walkers fade away. Lily and Henry go to check on Grandmother. They find her very ill and the rock stolen. Grandmother reveals herself as Pele, the Fire Goddess and says that Lily must go to the core of Kilauea volcano and find the Heart of Pele and toss it in the lava. If she fails, Ku the War God will rule and war and violence will spread from Hawaii, just like World War II. Lily and Henry set off to save the Islands and Grandmother Pele. Puku and Nanue try to stop them. On the way to Kilauea, Lily and Henry face a giant eel, miniature trouble-making Menehune tribesmen, and dragons of chaos and confusion. Lily and Henry make it to the core of Kilauea but cannot find Pele's Heart. As Puku's forces close in, Lily realizes that she is Pele's Heart and dives into the lava. It appears to be over as Puku gloats, but Lily rises from the lava reborn as the new Fire Goddess. She deals with Puku and Nanue and is joined by a healed Pele. Pele announces she has gotten a promotion and Lily will be the new protector of the islands. Lily and Henry set off on a journey through the islands and a life together.
