About Kelvin

Kelvin Garvanne has over 35 years experience in the media industry; as a performer,writer,filmmaker, non-union second assistant director, and assistant to a manager/producer. Kelvin has worked in television and film in New York, Madrid, and Los Angeles.

Kelvin was born and raised in Brooklyn,New York and attended the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Washington D.C. Although he did not fulfill his lifelong dream to be a diplomat he has used his education to remain active in international affairs. Kelvin received his first film credit when Spike Lee thanked him for helping to raise finishing funds for his first feature film “She’s Gotta Have It”.

In 1998, Kelvin wrote and produced a 23 minute 35mm color short titled “A Small Circle” with the help of director/ producer team Henry Zhou and Jocelyn Grieve of Liru Productions. The film was selected for film festivals in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, and Chicago. That same year, Kelvin was awarded the Los Angeles Emmy award for co-hosting “Dollars and Sense: Personal Finance for the 21st Century”. The 26 episode series was recognized as the best distance learning course and informational series on local television. Dollars and Sense was later distributed to PBS stations across the United States and Hong Kong.

Kelvin is currently seeking funding for the screenplay EMMETT; a historical drama about Emmett Ashford, the first African American umpire in major league baseball. He is also developing THE BOX., an episodic series about his experiences as a civilian on the battlefield and terrorist during mandatory pre-deployment training exercise for Marine Corps battalions deploying to Iraq.
