About Rachael

Rachael Biggs is an author and screenwriter who as a dual citizen divides her time between Vancouver, BC and Los Angeles, CA.

At the tender age of seven, her short story “How Giraffes Got Their Long Necks” earned numerous accolades and destiny was set in motion. Out of high school, she lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe as a model while writing her first novel “Girls Like Us.”

When she wasn’t traveling for work, she continued to study English, Literature and Creative Writing at Langara College and The University of British Columbia, in Vancouver. It was during her time here that she started acting, which took her to Los Angeles, where she soon called home.

Between auditions, she studied Creative Writing and Philosophy at UCLA and attended work shops with masters of screen writing such as Robert McKee and Syd Field.

Gradually transitioning from modeling and acting into writing and on-camera media, Rachael’s career to date has included entertainment journalism, ghost writing, celebrity interviews, press coverage for film, commercial scripts and copywriting as well as contributing to several print and on-line publications.

Her career highlight and proudest accomplishment thus far is her memoir, “Yearning for Nothings and Nobodies”, which was published in 2012 and received critical acclaim, prompting the screen adaptation, Behind the Eight Ball. It is a spiritual and humorous coming-of-age story about growing up with a drug-addicted, schizophreniac mother as well of a cast of other seedy but entertaining characters. It has been likened to The Glass Castle or White Oleander with a dash of Catcher in the Rye.

Ever seeking new challenges and with the desire to be closer to fresh air and crazy family, she left Los Angeles and devoted twelve months to studying screen writing with an emphasis on television at Vancouver Film School. Upon graduation she began working as a showrunner's assistant and script coordinator. Her goal is to become a staff writer on an edgy comedy or a thought provoking family drama and to see her feature films produced. Another book is also currently underway.
