The renting of people’s bodies has become commoditized into a bizarre beauty industry. A young model, for a popular body-leasing company, uncovers a twisted conspiracy forcing her to investigate this business where even the most basic principles of beauty and identity have become distorted.

SYNOPSIS:

In our near future the renting of people’s bodies has commoditized into a bizarre beauty industry. Sibyl (23) and her lover Greta (26) are both registered ‘alternates’ at Alter Scope, the number one body leasing company in the world. Sibyl discovers that Greta is developing a strange sickness, which may be connected to the very nature of her leasing out the control of her body and mind. When this sickness gets too much, Greta commits suicide.

Sibyl becomes convinced, however, that Greta’s body was being leased at the time and that a customer, therefor, murdered her. Through her investigation Sibyl manages to compel her brother (Cody - a technician addicted to body leasing) to help her find out who covered up this murder? Sibyl investigates Alter Scope’s owner, Boudica, a powerful recluse who hides her identity by fluctuating between dozens of her own personal alternates. Sibyl also befriends Larissa Abney, the scientific creator of body leasing, who suspects that Boudica is behind a black market that is selling off alternates to customers for permanent take over.

Sibyl begins to suffer from a similar illness as Greta, confusing her own memories, desires and habits with that of her clients. Sibyl realizes, now, the full damage body leasing has had on her. Sibyl attempts to reach out to Abney, but discovers that she has fled the city after Boudica made an attempt on her life. Sibyl and Cody attempt to infiltrate the company’s medical files so they can release evidence of this sickness to the public. During this attempt, Sibyl is captured by Boudica and is sedated so she can have her brain wiped and her body sold off to a rich customer for permanent take over.

Sibyl confronts Boudica about killing Greta, but is shocked to learn that Boudica had nothing to do with Greta’s death, as she had wished to sell Greta to a client for permanent take over too. Sibyl manages to break free and uploads incriminating evidence about the company, across the Alter Scope building, for all the customers to see. The company switches off the power in the building to stop the video, which also switches off every active body leasing session in progress, causing mass chaos as alternates all over the city drop on conscious.

The incident causes massive investigations into Alter Scope. Sibyl meets with Larissa Abney, who has now been promoted after Boudica’s arrest. Sibyl however uncovers that Larissa Abney killed Greta. Abney had been leasing Greta’s body for years and felt she had a right to her, deciding to kill Greta rather than let Boudica sell her off to someone else. Sibyl exposes Abney.

Despite all that Sibyl has done, body leasing remains as popular as ever, and even her brother is still struggling with his addiction. Sibyl then leaves the city to get away from the industry, that she was once so dependent on, in the hopes of discovering who she can be outside of it.
