A Romanian phone sex worker, hiding in London, uses dating apps to track down perverted criminals and bring them to justice.  

SYNOPSIS:

Kia is just a normal English girl, living day to day; struggling with isolation in a big city - at least that’s what she wants people to think. In reality, she is an illegal Romanian runaway, who escaped her controlling father at the age of 14. Now in her 20s, Kia spends her nights working for a sex-line, talking to the most depraved side of society; and spends her days living a façade, trying to forget her past. Kia soon discovers that her most perverted callers have graduated from phone sex to real-life rape; so she decides to take the law into her own hands and sets out to entrap these degenerates before they can inflict more pain on innocent women.

Black Charm is an 8 x 60 drama series about an abused, isolated woman regaining power, turning the tables on the deviants that prey in the dark and exposing the failings of our society to provide privacy and protection. The themes of female empowerment, immigration, emotional labour, racism and sexual exploitation are at the forefront of this carnal revenge tale set against the backdrop of modern urban life.

Kia uses dating apps to track down her targets, posing as an innocent girl looking for a man with a particular fetish. Along the way, she meets Hunter, an ambitious young reporter, desperate to be a hardcore gonzo journalist, but coming across as more of a boyscout. He is investigating the links between sex work and sex crime, interviewing all manner of scum. Kia utilises his expertise to help track her targets, unbeknownst to Hunter, who becomes entangled in her web of lies.

Meanwhile, Kia’s carefully orchestrated home life is thrown into disarray as her estranged brother turns up on her doorstep. Lucian is a cocky, devilish, hustler, on the run from his families’ enemies. He blackmails Kia into letting him stay and begins to set up his own illicit enterprise as Kia desperately tries not to fall into the life she escaped as a teenager.
