THE DEADLIGHTS (A SPEC SCRIPT FOR THE IT PREQUEL)

THE DEADLIGHTS (A SPEC SCRIPT FOR THE IT PREQUEL)
By Miroslav Trcak

GENRE: Sci-fi, Horror
LOGLINE:

In the world of the early nineties, after the ravenous force from another dimension possesses the
poor and naïve man’s soul, a group of fearless rebel kids must face and destroy that force only
by using the power of their minds before It makes them shine.

NOTE: This script was a product of my eternal love and appreciation for Stephen King and Pennywise's character in general. It is not for sale and it won't be. Unless Warner Bros asks me to do it or to write it down based on their idea.  So, this is just a passion product.

SYNOPSIS:

ACT I

BOB GRAY (40s), a poor man, the forever dream chaser, accompanied by his wife

SUSAN (40s) and two kids, ALISON (14) and ZACK (8) walk out the train station. They’ve

arrived to Derry, Maine a few minutes ago in order to start a new, hopefully, better life.

Bob rents a small house in the Neibolt Street with all the spared money that he had. And

even though he has only a couple of coins in his pocket, Bob still hopes for a better life.

During the first month he drowns deep into debts and while running away from the bullies

he owns money to, Bob hides inside the circus carousel and dresses-up as the clown.

Shortly after his first showtime, IT possesses his mind by swallowing him into the

Deadlights. A terrifying event follow and Bob Gray starts acting insanely; He threatens

Susan that he will kill them all; he kills a man on the street, or better said, prepare his

fearful and weak body for IT.

Not very far away from this scene, we see the Derry High School building and a huge

school yard. A couple of boys sit on the stone benches and ramparts and talk about the

next year Easter Egg; PETER DENBROUGH (15) is the eldest of them and the most

discontent one. He’s the one who initiates the whole argue. A black boy named LEROY

HANLON (14) looks very absent while listening to Peter. The other two of them, a very

thin and tidy MICHAEL HANSCOM (14) and the real rebel among them JASON

MARKSON (15) are arguing about their fears. In fact, Jason teases and ribs Michael

because he’s afraid. The ribbing continues until Michael mentions a clown monsters from

his dreams. Everyone shuts up.

ACT II

Bob Gray, now in the form of The Deadlights reappears down in the sewers again. The

lights pointed at the huge dead bodies pile. One of the bodies lifts up and starts levitating

above. The body dries and almost completely melts inside as the Deadlights suck all the

energy out of it. Shortly after, a drained body falls back on the top of the pile and the

Deadlights turn into Bob Gray again. Bob Gray exhales as a sign of satiation and

disperses back into the darkness. Ever since the day of the show, Susan Gray is

constantly afraid. She runs inside the house. Zack hides inside his father’s room where

he stays frightened by the creepy rotten death man’s face; the face shape-shifts into a

giant scorpion and starts feasting on poor motionless Zack’s body.

The family Osgoode is one of the rare ones who respect all of the town’s holidays and

biggest events. The same topic flows. The Easter Egg Hunt. Elizabeth and Howard

Osgoode are blessed with two healthy and good boys and they would do anything to

make them happy. At least one at the time. The Sun shines brighter than ever like it’s

about to say that they’ll all shine; that they’re going to die today. As soon as they arrive

at their target, all the children spread around looking for hidden eggs. The Easter Egg

hunting game continues Suddenly, Betty hears Jeremy’s voice calling for help: “Mother!

Mother! You have to get us out! They’re all going to float!” or “Mama! IT wants us all!”.

Betty stops at the doorway and stares at the clown. Pennywise calls her to float with the

others:” They’ll all float with ME, Betty!”. At the very next moment, a terrifying explosion

wipes them all away into a bloody red smoke.

Determined to find out what is “the thing” that kills people, the kids visit the local library.

One of the books gets their full attention. Peter takes the book; the pages start turning

one by one and stop at the page twenty-seven. There’s a ruined house picture which they

immediately recognize as the 29 Neibolt freaky house. Right under the image, written in

the bloody red, stands: “IT LIVES HERE”. At the same time, we dive deep into the

darkness of the sewers only to see the real Bob chained to the walls with no more chance

to live. IT swallows Bob inside the Deadlights and sucks all the energy from his body.

Bob’s body becomes dried. IT lights turn wider and bigger and the next thing we can see

is the only one IT Pennywise. Peter goes to Synagogue to visit Rabbi Albert and asks

him for help. Albert accepts to go on a journey with the kids. The rebels reach the freaky

house when a huge snake appears from the darkness and starts hissing at them. They

all back away. Michael starts running away. But at that specific moment, the snake wraps

around Jenny and pulls her inside. Peter grabs the sharp wooden spear and hits the

snake which makes her to crawl back and disappears inside of the well.

ACT III

The Deadlights appear and grow stronger than ever and almost blinds them all. They start

running away. On her run, Alison sees the piece of paper on the ground. She grabs and

reads it. It reads: “Before the Sun reaches the Dawn, save me from its bloody jaws!”

Alison freaks out and joins the others on their run towards the Synagogue. Albert repeats

that they must fight and beat IT only by using the power of their minds and to remain

fearless. The game of strength begins. Bob Gray starts approaching and drooling at them.

Albert appears and lifts the silver amulet up above his head and towards IT. The kids start

reading the ritual lines all as one and in the very next moment, Bob Gray disappears back

into the slobber, but Pennywise arises again. The rebels are not afraid anymore.

Pennywise shape-shifts into giant bloody leech. Albert and the kids bite the top of their

tongues and continue to speak the ritual lines loudly than before. Their strength creates

the big “shining wall” between them and the leech. Every time the leech tries to reach

them, the shining bounces IT back. After a few seconds, the leech gets smaller and

literally explodes before them. The blood splashes all around. All that’s left after is

Pennywise, beaten completely. Peter makes a few steps towards IT when Pennywise

jumps and tries to grabs him. But at that very moment, in the same position, Pennywise

turns into the stone statue and breaks into pieces. The Deadlights slowly blur and flash

inside the bottomless hole in the ground.

world only to make them happy, so he secretly dives into gambling and drowns himself

into debts. In one occasion, while running away from the bullies he owns some money to,

Bob hides in the colorful circus carousel and that’s where his clown journey begins. After
