Elsie has concealed both the pregnancy and her intention to abort the baby from Caleb. The film begins the day Elsie is scheduled to have an abortion. Waiting outside of the community center where the support groups meet, for her friend Lydia to escort her to carry out the abortion – she instead encounters Caleb.
