In this horror anthology, two reporters travel across the country to interview the newest phenomenon in the horror fiction world, only to come face to face with the terrifying truth behind his writings.

SYNOPSIS:

Clive Carpenter is an elderly author who is being praised as perhaps the greatest mind in horror fiction since Stephen King. The only difference between the two is that Clive is flat broke. After the success of his first two books, which were collections of his short horror stories, he gambled all of his money away in Las Vegas; shortly afterward, he loses his wife in a car accident. As a result, Clive suffered from a severe nervous breakdown, and for the last 6 months, he has been recovering in a very small, private hospital in the mid-west. To further boost his recovery, Clive has taken to writing his third collection of short stories he calls Mind Shadows, and the word is out. The critics are predicting that his upcoming book will blow his other two away in sales and land him the title of the greatest horror author of the decade.

Now, the race is on between reporters across the country to be the first to find Clive and interview him. Helen Wisby, a reporter for the U.S. Times, has the inside 411 on where he is and now she’s on a nine-hour road trip with a pompous - but ace - photographer, Bill Heisberg, to get the “exclusive story” of tragedy and triumph on the world’s newest horror icon.

As the story hops back and forth between Helen and Bill’s road trip and Clive, we get a glimpse into the twisted mind of the author when we watch his short stories played out as he pleasantly types away in his hospital room ----

---- The first story, “HELL ON WHEELS”, is about a cyclist who, while on his usual early morning 10-speed ride, crosses paths with a scuzzy, ruthless killer on another 10-speed. It’s a race to the death as the cyclist fights for survival on the twisting and winding roads snaking through a mountainous landscape that comes to a chilling climax.

---- Next is “JILTED”. A middle-aged romance novelist, who's been having an affair with a much younger man, breaks up with him to save her marriage. But, she soon learns that breaking up is hard to do... and deadly, too.

---- The third installment, “THE DEFIANT SEED”, is a nightmarish tale of voyeurism gone murderously wrong when a man rents a house with a bedroom window that overlooks his neighbors' backyard, where he inadvertently sees them burying someone on a stormy night. Before he knows it, they've come to pay him a visit with the intention of planting him in their morbid garden.

In the end, when Helen and Bill finally arrive at the hospital for their interview with Clive, they discover the gruesome secret behind the most twisted, new mind in horror fiction… and they have just become the inspiration for his next tale of terror.
