SPLINTERS

In this true story, John and his posse’ collect splinters on the bench of their high school state champion soccer team. In this broken one road town in Maine, where a shoe factory is the only hope, making the small class “B” soccer team is a right of passage. The school is too poor to have a football team, so the best athletes play soccer. The cheerleaders sew their torn uniforms in home economics class. It doesn’t matter that they have to remove rocks from their field during every practice. The Falcon team is crowned State Champions for the second year in a row. As the seniors depart, the splinters are passed the torch to carry the team in the next years season with little hope. As underdogs, the Freeport Falcons make their way to a third consecutive Maine State Soccer Crown. Handing in a respectable 5th place our of 12 teams The Falcons advance in the playoffs with three heart stopping last second double over-time finishes against dynasties of soccer and blemish pristine records to reach the Maine State finals where East meets West. Then to win the Maine State Championship in dominating, eloquent fashion. We follow this championship season. John finally starts as a fullback and the splinters all make the team and find their way in the complex world of youth to look forward to fulfill their dreams and count upon their efforts on this team to carry them on and later in life and to remember the sweet taste of victory.
