About Yu

Yu Han was born in the city of Changsha, China. She’s the daughter of a Judge and notary. At the age of 16, Yu came to United States as an exchange student. She quickly fell in love with America, leading her to attend California State University where she found passion for film making.

In 2013, Yu directed her first sci-fi short film “Two Dimensions”. Soon after that, she directed a time travel comedy “Newton’s first Trip”. Later, she made the “Interview with A Development Executive” with a former TV Executive offering understandings and ideas to help young filmmakers within the industry.

In 2014, Yu directed her first documentary “Fire and Dice”. The piece was dedicated to the gaming community featuring a card game “Magic the Gathering”. As a result, the documentary was a big success. During the same time, she directed a pilot comedy “The F Team”, a story taking place in a senior home where the retired super heroes lived and trying for a comeback.

In the fall of 2015, Yu won the Best Director Award for a sci-fi comedy “Robot Club". The short film follows an outer space robot that falls to earth and encounters a group of nerds.

In 2016, Yu directed “Hunan Mao’s Restaurant” commercial, an informational video which takes a very close look of the Chinese culinary history. Later that year, she directed the horror film “Shadow”. In it, a lone woman is forced to outrun a supernatural killer, but only to find that she may be responsible for the killings. The film was awarded for Best Picture in July 2017, and nominated in two other film festivals.

In early 2017, Yu produced and directed commercials for Sunny Delight and David Zhang Allstate Insurance Company. Later that year, she directed a sci-fi drama “Project 31” for the HBO Asian Director Visionaries Short Film Competition. The film tells a story of a man who falls deep into an experiment and mistakes the life in ancient china for reality.

During the late 2017 and early 2018, Yu Han directed her first feature film, a Chinese romantic comedy “My 88th Wedding Escape”.
