Appu & Arriba tells of Noriko Santiago’s quest to bring her senile grandfather to the turtle filled beaches of his youth. 

SYNOPSIS:

Revisiting Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory, Appu & Arriba focuses on the Japanese Mexican photographer Noriko Santiago, and her quest to see the world through the eyes of her senile grandfather, Jim-Jim.

Abandoned by her mother and caring for her little brother alone in Ishigaki, Noriko longs to understand why in his senility, her grandfather wanders into the ocean time and time again. An opportunity to explore their ancestral home in Mexico lures Noriko to greater understanding on the beaches of the Hidden Woman, and to attain the enlightenment of Sea Turtles.
