THE GREEN YEAR: AN INHUMANITIES PROJECT

THE GREEN YEAR: AN INHUMANITIES PROJECT
By James Karl Fischer

GENRE: Animation, Drama
LOGLINE:

The lynched Tom Robinson’s son Sam leaves the segregated American South to complete a birder’s big year across Brazil, Liberia, and the United Kingdom.

SYNOPSIS:

After guiding famed birders Roger Tory Peterson and James Fisher through the marshes of Alabama, young Sam Robinson decides that he too will complete a birder's 'Big Year'. Yet as racism and segregation make travel impossible, Sam decides to collect dead birds in the streets of Montgomery, all too common as they collide into windows. He brings the birds to his artistic little sister, who mounts the specimens in creative poses after discovering the taxidermy work of Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) in 'Judge' Magazine.

Disaster strikes during the opening of her first exhibit, and with blame laid squarely on Sam, he flees to Brazil and eventually, Liberia and the UK. Racisms of different kinds plague Sam wherever he goes, but he always manages to survive, remembering the grace of his father.

The culminating moment for Sam comes through a marriage to Roger Tory Peterson's daughter. This sets him into the post of wildlife trafficking officer for The Zoological Society of London, which he uses to thwart poachers from Italy to India, protecting the birds and communities he grows to cherish.
