Hi! My name is Breeshia; I'm originally from Chester, SC, but I am relocating to Los Angeles from Chicago. I studied Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity at Stanford University and received a Master's in Religious Studies and Philosophy from the University of Chicago. My studies have thoroughly informed my writing. I enjoy writing Afrofuturistic and dystopian screenplays. I also write drama and satire.
I've been writing poetry since I was six. Over the past eight years I've written essays, short stories and plays. I learned to write screenplays through The Second City Training Center in Chicago while also completing Shonda Rhimes' Master Class.
I've stayed on my hustle while trying to build my career as a writer. Consequently, I've received training as a software developer, doula and Buddhist chaplain. All of my work has impacted my writing, but I feel that my work as a chaplain has most directly shaped me into a better write. I realize that I can never empathize with people thru direct experience given that there will always be experiences that I don't have. But, I can imagine. Being able to imagine and therefore "see" the complexity of people's humanity allows me to write dynamic characters with whom audiences can relate.
Feel free to hit me up! I am excited about forming friendships and connections.
