About Lu
My full name is Luis Enrique Antonio Marin Gilbert, most people know me as Lu. Back in 1970, I was born in Brooklyn NY, my parents were immigrants from Ecuador. I've always been interested in art. I started drawing seriously by the age of four. By the age of 8, I grew into copying comic books like X-Men, Spiderman and Daredevil. Reading comics would prove to be a good foundation in learning lighting techniques and creative framing. In the mid 80's, my inspiration shifted from comics to Punk Rock music. The NY Hardcore scene provided insight into the DIY aesthetic that influenced my work ethic and skew on things. I received a BA in Communications from Marist College in 1992, and later studied at NYU and The Film & Photo Workshops in Rockport Maine.
I have freelanced since 1993 in various roles as Luis Marin Creative. Luis Marin Creative provides professional photography, film/video and design services. My still photography includes advertising, catalogs, publicity, editorial, and corporate work. In the design world, I’ve designed motion graphics, book covers, brochures, print ads, marketing collateral, and flyers.
In the Film/TV world, I’ve worked freelance as a Cameraman/Cinematographer on television, documentaries, narrative films, commercials, and corporate videos. From 2009-2102 I worked as a staff Producer/Director for Time Warner Cable producing mainly commercials and corporate videos. Independently, I have written, produced and directed 4 shorts and one feature entitled SIMPLY BEING. The latter of which received Honorable Mention for Audience Favorite/Best Feature Film at the 2002 Wilmington Independent Film Festival. IT was beat out by Jean Luc Godard's IN PRAISE OF LOVE.
I love to travel and have had the good fortune to have worked on film and photography projects in Europe, Africa, South America and the Caribbean. When not working I enjoy surfing and the outdoors. I am a proud father of 3 boys.
