About Sarah

Born in Kenosha Wisconsin to British parents who divorced when she was very young, award winning filmmaker Sarah Deakins was heavily inspired by her social worker father, her liberated mother and her artist stepmother, and was deeply effected by her stepmother's descent into Schizophrenia. Having lost this childhood idol to the streets, her work often illustrates the fragility and unexpected integrity of the downtrodden and explores how human beings connect, and how they struggle to connect. Her feature film script VIOLET was recently awarded the #1 spot on the 2021 Golden List of Best Un-produced Screenplays at the Golden Script Competition, made the top 40 in the 2020 Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting competition, and was a quarterfinalist in the 2020 ScreenCraft Drama Competition. Deakins has lived in Vancouver, LA and Toronto, and currently splits her time between these three cities.

VIOLET Budget: $1M - $5M | Drama Two attendants working in an underground public bathroom in the seediest part of town form a friendship with a prostitute who forces them all to face their secrets, as they form the world's most unexpected book club.
