About John

Writer/Director John Veron was born and raised in South Louisiana, where You Can Stay
Here takes place. His childhood was defined by two things: the culture of the Cajun people he grew up with, and the weekend nights he spent browsing the horror section of his local VHS rental shop, looking for something to take home.

After spending ten years away from Lake Charles, John returned home in 2011 to begin his filmmaking career by producing East Stackton, a short horror film shot around the area. East Stackton went on to enjoy a successful festival run and earned awards for itself and star Jared Bankens.

After completing East Stackton, John began to work in the film industry full-time in Los Angeles, first as an AD and then in commercial production. At the same time, he began working on shorts as a director. His short “You Can Stay Here” (a pitch piece for the feature) played at festivals across the country, including Filmquest in Salt Lake City and the Oxford Film Festival in Mississippi, while another short, “A Matter of Trust,” won acclaim both in the US and abroad, playing the Horrible Imaginings Festival in San Diego, the Idaho Horror Film Festival in Boise, and multiple festivals in the UK.
