About Shane

Shane McCabe was born in Dublin and graduated with a joint honours Economics and Business degree from Trinity College. He is also a graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting, and has been involved in the industry for a number of years.

His short film, THE BARBERSHOP, a comedy set in Dublin about a seemingly innocent kid who turns the tables on a belligerent barber, has just begun its 2018 festival run.

LUCKY ESCAPE screened at numerous Academy Award® accredited festivals worldwide, including Palm Springs, Rhode Island, Cleveland, and LA Shorts, before selling to NBC Universal, (Italy), HBO (Eastern Europe), UK Broadcaster Channel 4, comedy website , NBC (Pan Asia), Shorts TV in the United States, all of Latin America via the Latin American Discovery Channel and has over 3 million views on the SDGI YouTube Channel.

He recently signed a deal which will see both Lucky Escape and another of his shorts, THE PRESCRIPTION, sold on Amazon Prime and Hulu titled as Double Trouble.

In 2011, Shane was commissioned by PLAN IRELAND to write and direct a 60 second spoof commercial to correspond with the April fool’s day launch of their Third World Water Awareness Campaign.

His short film, NEVER JUDGE A BOOK, was funded by the Irish Film Board on a budget of $100, 000 and screened at a number of prestigious festivals, having had its premiere in Dublin Castle.

His TV pilot, KOPKILLER, about a young narcotics detective who is tasked with solving her own murder, is an OAXACA Film Festival Script Finalist 2018 and an Austin FF 2nd Rounder 2018.

Shane's TV Pilot, FARC, about a young kidnap victim who struggles to reintegrate into society having spent 6 years held captive by Farc terrorists in the Colombian Jungles placed First at the 2016 Back in the Box Best Short Subject Screenplay Competition.

His feature script, MONEY TALKS, received first draft development funding from the Irish Film Board and he is currently in direct talks with Bell Media on an Irish / Canadian co-production deal. Money Talks is a psychological thriller about two feuding sisters who accidentally kill the son of a notorious gangster, only to discover a couple of million hidden in the boot of his car, forcing them to work together to dispose of the body, keep the money, and stay under the radar of a psychotic crime boss out for revenge.

THE BASE, a dark thriller set on the US / Mexican border about a brilliant young profiler who must relive her own harrowing abduction in an effort to get inside the mind of a child serial killer and rescue a little girl from a fate worse than death, placed 2nd at the 2015 Scriptapalooza Screenwriting Competition.

PROBABLE CAUSE, a whodunit thriller set off the Florida Keys, that sees a young FBI Agent struggle to solve the murder of a ship's captain when the three close friends who chartered the vessel all point the finger of guilt at one another, was a ¼ Finalist at the 2013 Nicholl Fellowship and a Top 6 Finalist at the 2010 Austin Film Festival.

Kopkiller won Best Crime/Mystery category at the 6th Annual Gotham Screen International Film Festival Screenplay Competition 2012.

Breakthrough was one of the seven winning scripts selected by the London Screenwriter’s Festival as part of their Girls on Film Initiative 2012.

Close Call won the 2012 United Film Festival Best Short Screenplay, (Comedy).
