Goldie Hawn must travel through time to rescue Kurt Russell and come to terms with her younger self before the three evil Overlords of Time use Goldie's youthful energy to mangle history, destroy time itself...or worse!
SYNOPSIS:
Goldie Hawn wakes up one day feeling paranoid, her creative energy & sense of humor missing and experiencing selective memory loss. Kurt Russell is concerned but Goldie withdraws from him. So Kurt tries cajoling Goldie into seeing a doctor, but Goldie refuses, gets angry with him and calls him an old nag.
Kurt goes to the basement office to research online what is troubling Goldie. Goldie thinks Kurt is planning to stick her into a senior home like the “Aging Actors Retirement Villa” and hides in her bedroom. Kurt discovers a strange website link in social media that has an odd connection to Goldie’s condition.
Goldie talks to her old friends while Kurt’s discovery gets him kidnapped. Goldie gets a video call from her friend Lily Tomlin and Joanne Worley, who are having the same symptoms. Meanwhile, Kurt follows the web link to an even weirder website that lists Goldie’s condition as a side-effect from temporal manipulations by a secret cult called “the Overlords”. Hitting the embedded link, Kurt causes a space warp to open and he is kidnapped by minions of the Overlords.
Lily and Joanne talk to a hesitant Goldie and come over anyway. Lily and Joanne confront Goldie’s suspicions that Kurt has a hot young bimbo hidden somewhere. Then, Goldie realizes Kurt is gone and grows increasingly panicky. Lily insists that she and Joanne are coming over immediately no matter what Goldie says.
Kurt is strapped to a chair in a secured room and interrogated by the three mysterious Overlords. So, remembering his action movie days, Kurt uses reverse psychology to get them to reveal their plan. This lulls the Overlords into overconfidence, so they explain their plan to travel to 1972 and capture three funniest actresses on the NBC program Laugh-In in order to power their time-destroying Device, as they already captured the younger versions of Joanne and Lily. They all argue over Kurt’s supposed knowledge of Young Goldie’s location.
Lily and Joanne arrive at Goldie’s house and Lily argues with Goldie about Kurt’s supposed behavior. Lily barges into the basement office and digs through the sites Kurt left open. Goldie has second thoughts and tries to get Lily off the computer, wherein Joanne clicks the mysterious web link. A space warp opens and all three women are confronted by the Overlords’ minions.
Kurt escapes his holding cell and ends up back in the room with the Device. Kurt frees Young Joanne and Young Lily and blows up the Device. Ruth Buzzi appears and helps them escape by means of Ruth’s own timeship. Ruth reveals that she is a former Overlord who was pushed out of the job by the upstart Overlords, knows all about their evil plot and knows that in order to finally defeat it, they must head to 1972 NBC Burbank Studios to get Young Goldie, Young Lily and Young Joanne back in the Laugh-In Joke Wall. Kurt points out they only have Young Lily & Joanne. Ruth reveals that she has Young Goldie secretly secured onboard already.
Kurt is drawn to distraction by Young Goldie. He tries speaking more familiarly with her, but she blows him off as a “creepy, un-hip old grandpa”. This causes Kurt to notice the timeship’s monitors, sees that Older Lily, Joanne & Goldie are being pursued by the minions, and convinces Ruth to divert the timeship to his home so they can save Goldie & friends.
Ruth, Kurt, Young Joanne, Young Lily and Young Goldie appear in the nick of time to rescue Goldie, Lily and Joanne from the minions. Jumping back into spacetime on Ruth’s ship, Joanne and Lily find themselves amused with their younger selves, whereas Goldie is not, especially as Young Goldie keeps mistaking Goldie to be her mother.
Ruth, Lily and Joanne finalize the attack plan on the Overlords and chart a course to 1972 NBC Burbank Studios. Meanwhile, the Overlords regroup and launch their own “Plan B” against Team Goldie by determining their next move will be a run on the 1972 NBC Burbank Studios and plotting exactly where to intercept them.
Team Goldie arrive in 1972. While Joanne and Lily enjoy bantering with their younger selves, Goldie grows more frustrated with Young Goldie for being way too ditzy and soaking up Kurt’s attention. Young Goldie becomes more sad that her “mom” is being so mean to her while Kurt (the “dirty old man”) keeps looking at her. Kurt tries to intercede between the two, but realizes he’s caught between two Goldies, feeling like a fool. So, Ruth gives him advice on how to get through to Goldie about his feelings by telling him to be flexible & patient, as it’s not every woman who gets to be literally jealous of herself.
Ruth lands the timeship near the NBC Studio complex and Team Goldie sneaks inside, avoiding minions, searching for the studio “Laugh-In'' recorded in. They enter an obviously mislabeled studio and are immediately surrounded by the Overlords and their minions. The Overlords demand Young Goldie, Young Lily and Young Joanne surrender, but Kurt is having none of it and attacks the minions.
Team Goldie battles the Overlords & minions, while Goldie, Kurt and Young Goldie simultaneously argue. This causes the minions to overcome and capture most of Team Goldie except Goldie and Young Goldie, who finally remembers the correct studio is just across the hall, to Goldie’s chagrin. The Overlords threaten to use a hand-held, store-bought Mini version of the Device on them, but Joanne & Young Joanne keep them verbally distracted from activating the machine. The Overlords threaten to attach the Device Mark 2 onto Kurt and turn it up to 11 to suck all the remnant Goldie energy out of him instead...oh, and it just might kill him in the process.
Goldie distracts the Overlords by acting like Young Goldie, confusing them, while Young Goldie makes a break for the Joke Wall. The Overlords decide to attach the Device Mark 2 on Goldie, yet she gets stronger as Young Goldie beats the minions to the Joke Wall. Young Goldie accesses the Joke Wall by a long-lost phrase, which causes Goldie to get all her energy and memories back, causing shockwaves through the building and the Device Mark 2 to disintegrate. Goldie frees Kurt, Ruth, the two Lilys and the two Joannes while single-handedly taking on the Overlords to cover for Kurt leading Young Lily and Young Joanne through the remaining minions to the Joke Wall, where once inside after uttering the passcode, Lily and Joanne regain their energy & memories, and help Goldie vanquish and unmask the Overlords, revealing them to be Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray and a petulant Lorne Michaels, who admits his plan was to eliminate Saturday Night Live’s predecessor, Laugh-In, so he could move SNL’s first season to 1968, thereby increasing his prestige, control over NBC and his bank account, or blow up the world trying...and he would’ve done it too, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!
The remainder of Team Goldie board Ruth’s timeship and head back to Goldie & Kurt’s house in today’s time. Lily and Joanne confront Goldie, who apologizes for her earlier behavior. Goldie goes to Kurt to clear the air about the day’s experience. Goldie realizes that she was the bimbo after all, Kurt consoling her that some bimbos, especially ones named Goldie, are pretty cool, causing Goldie to bop him. Reappearing in the present day, Ruth drops Goldie and Kurt off at home.
Lily and Joanne decide to join Ruth and patrol the comedy timelines as the new Overlords. Goldie has a warm goodbye with her old friends. Goldie then tells Kurt she is finally at peace with herself and her ditzy younger days. Kurt tells her how cool her past and current self are when rolled up into one great Goldie, causing her to tell him that he’s pretty cool for a “creepy, un-hip old grandpa”.
Goldie and Kurt are enjoying a lovely day together watching old TV shows. Hearing a crash outside, they dash out to find Ruth, Lily and Joanne picking trash off of the timeship, having collided with Goldie & Kurt’s trash cans. Lily approaches Goldie and begs for her help in a new mission, stating that “It’s Phoebe! There’s something terribly wrong with Phoebe!”
