SYNOPSIS:

Introduction:

I have a background in Anthropology and I have always been fascinated by the diversity of culture and the myths & legends that drives them. The notion of the word Mercury plays both a thing and a person.

In Greek mythology, the messenger of the Gods was known as Hermes, but to the Romans – Mercury. Johnathan, who plays Henry’s love interest constantly writes letters to an unrequited love and has a fondness for Top Hats. But back in the 19th Century, cured felt that was used for these hats included a deadly element, Mercury. This feature length story is about love, drama, jealousy, murder and madness.

Story:

Our story opens with Johnathan, who is a young, beautiful and rich socialite of Philadelphia in the late 19th century. Outside in his garden, he is burying a stranger in the dead of night. Soon it rains and he finds himself in the room of his Victorian home trashed with broken furniture, glass and floors stained with blood. Sitting at his writing desk, he begins to write a letter to his unrequited love, Bane. Stating that he “may not be well.”

A month prior to these events, Henry, a handsome man with a southern accent starts his first day at a post office. There he meets a beautiful Irish woman named Katherine and a work associate, Samuel. During his first day, Henry sees the dashing Johnathan dropping off a letter with no address (to and from), except for the words “My Love” and then leaves.

Katherine explains to Henry that this is not the first time and there is a special pile of undeliverable letters by the mysterious, romance writer. Soon Henry’s curiosity of the letters, prompts him to steal one.

Soon after reading the letter, Henry finds himself drawn to the writer.

Unbeknownst to Johnathan, he is slowly being poisoned by the mercury from his top hat and showing symptoms, including shaky hands. Becoming unstable at times, Johnathan has violent outbursts towards his staff and feels that they are always judging him with the men he secretly sleeps with.

Meanwhile, Katherine tries and fails in getting Henry to become her lover, instead settle as friends. She invites him out to a boxing match where they find Johnathan, who suddenly falls for Henry. It is only through another letter, that Henry discovers the Johnathan has feelings for him and no more of Bane.

After meeting each other on the street, Johnathan and Henry discover their mutual feelings. Elsewhere, Katherine is surprised that Samuel is slowly becoming jealous and possessive of her and the friendship she has with Henry, even though Samuel is married.

With the bad luck she has with love, Katherine becomes jealous after finding Henry and Johnathan together outside of a theater. Later that evening, Johnathan and Henry make love.

The next day and in tears, Katherine informs Henry that she has an idea of what is going on with the both of them. But Samuel, coming in at an inopportune time misinterprets the scene and believes Henry has hurt Katherine in some manner and they begin to fight. Bane walks in and notices how good a fighter Henry is and offers him a boxing audition after losing his job at the post office.

After winning the audition fight, Bane celebrates with Henry over beer and reveals the letters he’s received in the past by an obsessed fan were by a writer named Johnathan.

With his symptoms becoming worst, Johnathan feels the pressure from his uncle to find a wife and believing his staff is mocking him and plotting to ruin what he and Henry has, he snaps. He kills his maid, Sarah.

Later, Henry discovers that Katherine decides to leave Philadelphia and they have a heartfelt goodbye. Meanwhile, Samuel is recruited by Bane to fight against Henry at the main event. After a brutal match, Henry wins. But with his ego hurt, Samuel & Bane plot to rob and kill the lovebirds at their home.

After killing Bane and Samuel, Henry drinks some wine not realizing it was poisoned, which was used by Johnathan to kill his entire staff earlier that day. In mourning, Johnathan buries Henry in the garden. After placing Bane, Samuel and the staff in a barn and setting it on fire, Johnathan writes one last letter. The following day, Johnathan waits for a train to New York City where he meets a stranger and his eventual demise, Mr. Red.

THE END.

Mr. Red is based from my screenplay, “Mr. Red”. A Scottish Goblin-like creature who hunts and kills humans for their blood to soak his clothes in at a New York City hotel in the 21st Century.
