"KUCHU UNITED"
By Marcinho Savant

GENRE: Documentary
LOGLINE: In Uganda, being gay is against the law. Pay-offs, life in jail, and murder await the Kuchu. Thanks to the "Kill The Gays" bill. One man won't remain silent... though his life is at stake.

SYNOPSIS:

There is a daring and courageous man heading up an organization that exists to help the displaced, harassed and brutalized gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) individuals living in fear for their lives. Unable to seek medical care, because the doctors will turn them in, to the authorities. Unable to walk on the streets, for fear of getting beaten, stoned, attacked or killed. LGBTI people ("Kuchu") in Uganda live every second of their lives in terror of discovery, or death. This man's organization faces the challenges of providing food, clothing, shelter, medical care, safety, and protection in a society where individuals are terrified to seek these things on their own. Shunned by their families. friends, and villages, they have nowhere to turn. This documentary will expose, and delve into, the many layers of societal oppression, intimidation, mob-rule, corruption, and one man who faces them all, on their behalf. *It is the production's intention to shop this film to Public Television and other PBS affiliates nationwide, as well as, festivals and competitions, in addition to a theatrical release.
