About Dawna

Writer/director Dawna Sirard enjoyed early success
with her first film, "Neshomeleh" garnering several awards, including first place at the Northampton Independent Film Festival. The short, a touching story about an elderly widow preparing for a date, highlights Dawna’s eye for framing photographically beautiful images within the context of a heart-warming and emotionally touching story.

Continuing her film career, Dawna completed a series of short films for a Connecticut nonprofit, including "Follow the Fifty the Kickoff," a short that gained national attention for the American Heart Association as an inspiring and motivational film about heart disease in women. Another short, Champions of the Human Spirit, captured the attention of a local community through engaging and inspirational stories of sacrifice.

Sirard went on to write "Life Abstract," a script about a young lesbian using art therapy to recover from painful memories of child abuse. A beautiful story about human connections, recovery and hope, the intersecting lives of four strong female characters help create a narrative that is compelling and inspirational. Two more shorts followed with "A Little Help Here" serving as a great example of Dawna’s developing directing and aesthetic style.

Dawna followed up with two more scripts - "A Hand to One," a historical feature that explores the concept of humanity during the Holocaust, and "Yachatz," a short that explores a mother-daughter relationship influenced by a diagnosis of Alzheimer's and a loss of faith.

"Yachatz" has brought much attention to Dawna’s writing skills, placing in multiple festivals, and nominated or winning in others. Based on Dawna’s experiences caring for her mother, "Yachatz" is a story that resonates with anyone touched by Alzheimer’s disease or the loss of faith and family.

Stay tuned, as Dawna begins work on another script and develops the short, "Yachatz"…
