After his father dies, a writer is forced to abandon his comfortable city life in Vienna to save his mother’s struggling vineyard from imminent ruin, resorting to unorthodox practices in the process.

SYNOPSIS:

Rainer is a critically acclaimed novelist, enjoying life with his rich girlfriend in Vienna, far away from his family’s humble vineyard. Despite his success, he is now writing articles for magazines as he desperately tries to overcome a serious case of Writers’ Block.

One day, his easy life is shattered when his father passes away and he is forced to step up to the plate to help his family out. He assumes this will be a short-term inconvenience, but then they discover that his father was broke, owing large sums to the banks and the tax man. He has no idea how to dig his mother out of this hole.

In desperation, he is forced to follow the “legally dubious” solution proffered by his friend, Max. The results far exceed their expectations, dramatically increasing production and profitability, but igniting the suspicion of the local taxman who has long held a grudge against Rainer. His animosity grows further when the girl he covets spurns him, but appears to flirt with Rainer instead. His resentment reaches new heights when the whole village starts to consider Rainer a savior after he unadvisedly shares his formula for success.

The village chooses Rainer as the next mayor, despite the taxman’s efforts to bring him down. On the day he is to be officially sworn in, the whole scheme comes crashing down – literally.
