About John

Longtime journalist -- reporter, copy editor and nationally syndicated college football columnist -- with the New Hampshire Union Leader, the state's largest daily and Sunday newspaper. His first venture into screenwriting was as a co-writer of the feature film "First Killing Frost," directed and produced by Academy Award- winner Roland Halle of Bedford, NH. Halle's documentary Karl Hess: Toward Liberty, which he co-produced with Peter Ladue, won an Oscar in 1981 for Documentary Short Subject. Halle was nominated again in the same category in 1982 for Urge to Build. After writing feature articles on Halle's successes for The Union Leader, Tucker discussed with Halle the Oscar winner's idea for a feature film and Halle asked Tucker to write the screenplay; their efforts, along with co-writers, culminated in the making of the film, "The First Killing Frost" (1986). Tucker's "Beyond Recognition" is his first original screenplay. Harvard Team SEAL... Operation: Drake's Castle is his most recent. He has every confidence both will be discovered and produced in the not too distant future, thanks, hopefully, to a site like this. Tucker is retired from the newspaper business and resides in Winston-Salem, NC, with his wife of 40 years, Terrie. They are the proud parents of two children, Bradley and Jillian, and four grandsons, Dylan, Landon, John and Parker.
