LOGLINE:

When a widow and her son move out to a predominantly white town the journey to become part of it is hardened by stereotypes.

SYNOPSIS:

Ade has a wife and a son that he loves. He's really close to his roots as a history professor. He dies at the age of 44 years old. Anita can't afford to stay in their city and decides to move in a little town with Logan their son. She gets a small job at a restaurant as a waitress and applies to get the benefit. Logan struggles to get integrated with the other kids of the city. Especially with Gareth who gives a hard time always calling him names and teases him about his color and his nappy hair. One day, fed up by Gareth's attitude always insulting him and touching his hair. He decides to put pins into his afro. Gareth stabs his hand against the pin. Logan gets expelled from school. Anita tries on her side to figure out what is happening and meets with the Headmaster. Logan meets Helena a Spanish girl and his only friend. When Logan comes back to school, Gareth feels like fighting him but he gets stopped by his dad who picks him up from school. Gareth goes to the restaurant with his dad and dad's girlfriend. A black woman, Gareth doesn't accept it and disappear for a couple of days. Worried by his disappearance, Ms. Miller, Gareth's mom meets with Anita. Anita learns why Gareth acts as he acts with her son. She explains that to Logan. Logan manages to make Gareth realize where is hatred come from. At the end of the year Helena and Logan are doing a presentation and with powerful words, they actually manage to change the way of thought of their little town.
