SYNOPSIS:
An anthology series, where in each new season, we meet a different group of Friends or Strangers as they gather in a solitary location, to tell their own supernatural tales, while unknowingly playing a part in a larger story of terror as it unfolds around them.
Season One, THESE DARK & DREADFUL WINDING ROADS focuses on paranormal stories taking place on our country’s most haunted bi-ways.
In the pilot episode for the series, titled TAKE ONLY MEMORIES, we meet the main players, seven people on a family RV trip across the US. If you’ve ever been on a long family trip, you know that they can easily turn from a great time, full of memories, to a nightmare of epic proportions. This story fits in that last category.
The opening of the wrap-around sequence that we follow throughout the first season, follows a family of five, along with two friends of the older children, on the tail end of their cross country Summer RV trip, where it’s immediately apparent that this trip has gone off a cliff.
To pass the final leg of the drive, the kids take turns telling scary stories, the first of which is a possession story about a group of three kids, who while trying to conjure a locally infamous ghost boy at the bridge by Dead Man’s Curve, end up finding a set of castle ruins in the woods covered in satanic symbols and incantations, where one of the boys picks up a hitchhiking demon with intentions on settling in for the long haul.
The possession story ends with a return to the main wrap-around story of the RV, where the youngest son is beginning to show early signs of his own possession, but his arrogant father brushes it off as the tantrums of a petulant child and the rest of the family, rushing to the child’s defense, believe it to be a normal reaction to his father’s general lack of attention paid in his direction.
As the season progresses, we learn more about what happened earlier in the trip, to put everyone on such a razor’s edge, while hearing more scary stories from the other passengers and bearing witness to a supernatural force, as it slowly takes over the entire group, all accept for dear old, obnoxious Dad, whom this entity has set its sights on eliminating.
