About Kumie

Hi I am Kumie, I am a costume designer and a costume special effect artist with more than 5 years of experiences. Love to connect with film makers who share same passions for surrealism, fantasy, sci-fi and period films / tv shows!

Born in Japan, Kumie split her time as an adolescent in both Yokohama and San Francisco. Kumie receive the finest education in fashion design from Parsons The New School For Design in New York. While assisting the costume designer, Kumie moved from New York to Los Angeles to focus on articulating the elements of a story through costumes for Films and TV shows.
Besides working on international award wining Pepsi Nex TV campaign and Samsung’s national TV commercials, she earned MFA in Costume Design from UCLA Theater, Film and TV program under the mentorship of Academy award nominated costume designer Dr. Deborah Landis, Emmy award winning costume designer Chrisi Karvonides and Jane Ruhm. Kumie's works include James Franco’s feature film: “Rio” in “Actor’s Anonymous”, “Grad Daze” directed by Zach Marion, “Distant Vision” an innovative live cinema written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
Strongly inspired by artistic aesthetic of Eiko Ishioka, Colleen Atwood and Sandy Powell; Kumie creates and tells story through costumes. She is a member of Costume Designers Guild, Local 892.

Unique traits: English/Japanese bilingual. Able to custom make special costumes. Great in surreal, fantasy, sci-fi, and period costumes.
